Native American Health Coverage

Do you know about your coverage on the Health Insurance Marketplace?

Benefits are available to members of federally recognized tribes and people of American Indian descent. The Marketplace (aka Obamacare) provides affordable health coverage through Marketplace plans, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Our local agents can assist you in signing up for a marketplace plan, or in deciding if the Marketplace or Medicaid is right for you. Our help is always free!

Zero Cost Plans ($0!)

Most Native Americans applying for coverage on the marketplace will qualify for a “zero cost sharing” plan.

A "zero cost sharing plan" means you don't pay ANY out-of-pocket costs—no deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, etc.—when you get care. Your care is free.

Yes, your healthcare is FREE.

For most people, your monthly premium will be $0 to $10. This amount is based on your income—if you have a lower income, you will have no monthly payment, in addition to no health care costs.

If you get services from an Indian Health Care Provider, you will NEVER have any out-of-pocket costs like copayments, coinsurance, or deductibles, regardless of your income.

How do I know if I meet the income qualifications for FREE healthcare?

For a single person applying on the marketplace, you will qualify for a zero cost sharing plan if you make less than $50k annually.

For a couple applying on the marketplace, you will qualify for a zero cost sharing plan if your household makes less than $69k annually.

For a family of three applying on the marketplace, you will qualify for a zero cost sharing plan if your household makes less than $87k annually.

For a family of four applying on the marketplace, you will qualify for a zero cost sharing plan if your household makes less than $106k annually.

Benefits of a Marketplace Plan

Expanded Network of Care: If you enroll in a plan through the Marketplace you can begin getting service from any providers in your new plan's network, as well as getting (or continuing to get) services from the Indian Health Service, tribal health programs or urban Indian health programs.

Monthly Special Enrollment Periods: You can enroll in a Marketplace health insurance plan any time, not just during the yearly Open Enrollment Period. You can change plans as often as once a month.

If one family member on the application is eligible for the Special Enrollment Period (SEP), all family members who apply on the same Marketplace application are eligible, even if family members are eligible for different plans.

It is suggested that tribal members and non-tribal members should enroll in separate plans to take advantage of all potential savings.

Agent Assistance: When you are enrolled in a marketplace plan, you can have an agent take care of everything for you! Our local agents handle everything from enrollment to document verification to claims—and anything else that you need. Our job is to help you navigate the world of health insurance. And our help to you is free!

Are tribal documents required to apply for coverage?

To qualify for tribal member year-round enrollment, you’ll need to provide a document issued by a federally recognized tribe indicating tribal membership.

When you apply with an agent, you simply need to text or email a picture of the document for us to upload with your application.
